Good morning Guys and Gals,

     Pretty much the same as last week......the Newport barge  received a fresh load of live squid this morning. San Pedro will hopefully be loaded up by day break tomorrow. Sardines have been very tuff to come by lately, but thats not so bad since live squid has been the bait of choice for the yellows and seabass that are scattered up and down the So Cal Coast. As far as fin bait, there is and has been plenty of good size anchovies around the past couple weeks. If you come across any large areas of anchovies or sardines, I highly recommend fishing them with either a live squid, jig, or fin bait of some sort. The majority of the fish have been very close to the surface and hanging high in the water column. There has been a lot of thirty to fifty plus pound seabass mixed with the anchovies and squid the past week and from time to time they decide to bite.

Good morning Guys and Gals,

     The San Pedro and Newport barges both received fresh loads of live squid this morning. Sardines have been very tuff to come by lately, but thats not so bad since live squid has been the bait of choice for the yellows and seabass that are scattered up and down the So Cal Coast.      The San Pedro and Newport barges both received fresh loads of live squid this morning. There will be plenty around all weekend. Theres plenty of anchovies and sardines as well. Other than a small ground swell, the weather forecast is great with minimal wind. Great weather, fishing and bait.......sounds like a wonderful weekend to me!!

     As you all know there's some great fishing to be had up and down the coast/islands this week for all of our favorite species.

    As far as bait.......both San Pedro and Newport Barges received fresh batches of live squid. The stuff is coming from deep water, is not in spawn mode, and living very well lately. We also have cured sardines upon request in Newport, sanrdines and anchovies available at both locations.

News from San Pedro Bait Co 5.22.2013


5/22/13 Live squid / bait / fishing report
Good morning Guys and Gals,

   Well it finally looks like this season is getting going. A little bit of squid showed up last week and within a few days there was good catches along the coast and the island for yellowtail, seabass, calico bass and halibut. Sportboats from Newport and the LA Harbor area had scores of up to fifity yellowtail (10 lb average) yesterday at Catalina and the half day boat Monte Carlo had six yellows locally yesterday as well with great bass fishing to go with it.

    As far as bait.......the San Pedro barge has plenty of live squid for this week, as well as anchovies and sardines. Newport just ran out of squid yesterday, but has plenty or cured sardines and anchovies. If all goes as planned, both barges will get fresh batches of squid for the weekend.
