Good day Anglers and happy/healthy 2013 to you all !

Well, there has not been a whole lot to report lately and I imagine motivation has been quite low for various reasons. If live squid and perfect January weather helps get you out, then this is your weekend. We have plenty of live squid for the weekend and a limited amount of sardines and anchovies as well. The barge will be manned around the clock this weekend

The San Pedro Barge can be reached on Ch 11 on the VHF, call direct 310-365-2516, or just come on by.

Good luck and good fishing!!

7/06/12 Live squid / bait report

7/06/12 Live squid / bait report
Good morning Anglers,

Here's the weekend's bait report.....................

The Newport Bait barge is loaded with live squid and has three wells of cured sardines.

San Pedro is loaded with live squid, medium size anchovies and one well of sardines as of now.

As far as conditions, we've had a nice south east breeze the past week which has moved out the cold and off color water on the local scene. Temps are up and the color is beautiful. Bass, barracuda and scattered sea bass are responding well to this improvement along most of the usual coastal spots. Island fishing remains steady on calico bass and hit and miss on seabass and yellows.

The Newport Barge is open 24/7 and can be reached on Ch 79 on the VHF or call direct 310-461-5370 or direct connect 124*68731*2.

The San Pedro Barge is open 24/7 and can be reached on Ch 11 on the VHF or call direct 310-365-2516.

Good luck and good fishing!!

6/28/12 Live squid / bait report

6/28/12 Live squid / bait report
Good morning Anglers,

The Pamela Rose delivered live squid to the the San Pedro and Newport barges this morning. Currently Newport has large sardines and San Pedro has anchovies and large sardines. Fin bait fishing has been very difficult lately for anchovies as well as small sardines, but hopefully that will change soon so we can have something for everybody.

6/14/12 Live squid / bait report

6/14/12 Live squid / bait report
Good morning Anglers,

The Pamela Rose delivered live squid to the San Pedro barge this morning and is currently en route to Newport with live squid as well. Both locations have a beautiful mix of small to large anchovies and cured sardines. The current bait situation should be the case throughout the weekend.

Fishing has been very good lately along the entire Southern California coast. Barracuda have been hitting on a daily basis from the Horseshoe kelp to the Izors reef area as well as bass on most of the local spots this week. Big seabass scattered up and down the coast and Catalina produced some good numbers of seabass and scattered yellowtail too. Bass fishing on the front side of the island was great this week as well.

5/31/12 Live squid update

5/31/12 Live squid update
Good morning Anglers,

Both San Pedro and Newport barges received loads of live squid this morning 5/31.  Newport has some killer cured sardines that have been in the barge for a month, as well as large anchovies. San Pedro has large anchovies and sardines as well.

As far as fishing goes, some highlights of the past two weeks has been the good numbers of "coastal tanker" seabass caught up and down the coast on bird/anchovy schools as well as the squid beds of San Onofre. The majority of the fish have been between forty to sixty pounds anf mostly taken on live squid. There has been fish caught from Huntington Beach to La Jolla. Also, the barracuda have moved in and are biting full speed this morning just below Izors reef. I would not be surprised to see some numbers of "tankers" taken from this area in the near future as well.

Tankers on the Squid

kingsmill

First blood on the boom- Took Dan Loros, who built the beautiful custom tank in my transom, out for some local sea bass fishing to try to get him his first fish. Todd P. (Newport Bait Barge) texted me that they had a load of mini squids in the receiver, so I decided to give it a try. Fished a few hours Saturday morning, Dan caught one big black and then later lost a nice white. Went in early to recoop and pick up the old man (WB). Got set up early eve and just before dark Dan's got one on. A 59.4# hits the deck. Nice job Dan. Sat it out and got one more bite, a 57.5#. Thanks for the text Todd, those mini baits did the job. That tank had 1000+ one to three inch squids and not a single clog in 36 hours. Awesome tank Dan, if anyone needs custom work on there rig, Dan does beautiful work (check out photo) The thing is too nice for the boat!

San Pedro Bait Company Bait Report 4/27/12

We came across some live squid last night. The bait is on the small side, but it still smells and tastes the same. You get a lot more per scoop so putting a few on each hook would be a good choice!

Both Newport and San Pedro have the tastey critters. To go along with the mini squids, Newport has some killer cured sardines that have been in the barge for a month and San Pedro has small to medium sizeanchovies and sardines.

The Newport Barge is open 24/7 and can be reached on Ch 79 on the VHF or call direct 310-461-5370 or direct connect 124*68731*2.

The San Pedro Barge's hours are Mon-Thurs 5 am - 5 pm and returnung Friday 5 am - Sunday 5 pm. They can be reached on Ch 11 on the VHF or call direct 310-365-2516.

 Good luck and good fishing!!
